“We’re not ruling out anyone in that house, and while we have one person of primary interest, it would be a lot easier if everyone told us the truth and exactly what happened in that house,” he said. The person of interest, Cj Nelson Jr., 21, was booked into the county jail for a probation violation stemming from a weapons offense.

Nelson has not been charged in the boy’s death “yet,” Staly emphasized. There was no immediate information about Nelson’s connection to the baby, but the sheriff said he was not the girl’s biological father. During a search of the crime scene, investigators reportedly recovered the weapon used in the shooting, which the sheriff described as a U.S. tactical assault pistol capable of firing different caliber bullets.

Also seized were 420 grams of marijuana and 11 grams of a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine or heroin, Staly told reporters. When asked if it was possible that the baby accidentally shot herself, the sheriff emphasized that she was not handling the gun.

“The boy did not touch the firearm. “The girl is an innocent victim in this case, and no action on her part influenced her death,” Staly said. The sheriff complained that the eight adults present inside the home during the shooting had not “fully” cooperated with the investigation, something he found “frustrating.”

“Chintzia McIntyre, 48, had been seriously assaulted and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.”
