David Scott The head of Exxon’s shale oil business has been arrested at a Texas hotel on a sexual assault charge after one of two women who were in the room with him called the cops.
David Scott, 49, was apprehended early on Thursday morning at La Quinta Inn & Suites hotel in Magnolia near his company’s headquarters in Spring, Montgomery Sheriff’s Office said.
The married senior vice president was reported by one of the two women he was with after she left $109-a-night room and called police from the lobby a hotel worker who saw a security video told Reuters.
Scott is currently in the midst of merger talks to acquire rival Pioneer Natural Resources in a deal that could value the shale producer at about $60 billion.
The Australian-born Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology graduate took up the senior vice president role eight months ago with an estimated salary of up to $520,000.
He faces a second-degree criminal assault charge and was released on a $30,000 bond, according to jail records.

As a senior vice president of its shale operations, he would not necessarily be involved in merger talks, a person familiar with the matter said.
Scott’s LinkedIn profile shows he has been with Exxon for more than 26 years and has been involved in some of its most important oil and gas projects around the world.
Convictions on such felonies in Texas carry a minimum of two years and up to 20 years in prison.
Scott did not immediately respond to a message sent by Reuters to his LinkedIn profile.
ExxonMobil has since confirmed Scott has been suspended pending the criminal probe.
