Mads Mikkelsen Wiki- Mads Mikkelsen Biography

Mads Mikkelsen opened up about some of the humorous fun that both he and his ‘partner in crime’ Daniel Craig had while filming the 2006 blockbuster, Casino Royale.

The Danish actor, 57, – who has been promoting his latest project titled The Promised Land – reminisced on his time on set with the James Bond actor, 55, while attending the Zurich Film Festival.

The star – who portrayed the character of Le Chiffre in the film – admitted that he ‘never watched a Bond movie’ before he was cast in Casino Royale, but expressed that he has now ‘seen the ones with Daniel Craig,’ per Variety.
‘[Back then] he was the new Bond and everything about him was “wrong.” His height, his nose, his hair. I think he was glad I also came from indie films,’ Mads added while speaking to the audience at the event.

‘He had a partner in crime,’ the Hannibal actor stated, and then humorously recalled, ‘There was this scene where I tickled his b***s with a rope. We had so many ideas and the director just looked at us: “Guys, come back. It’s a Bond movie.”‘
He also recalled his losing script for the 2006 film and stated, ‘Casino Royale was the first screenplay with my name on every single page.’

‘Which also means that if you lose it, it’s on you. I got on a plane, started to read it and I fell asleep. Then I got out and just left it there,’ Mikkelsen admitted to the crowd.

However, luck was on his side and the actor revealed, ‘I was lucky some cleaning person threw it away and did n’t know what it was. That could have been the end of my career, right then.’

Due to not having a lot of knowledge of the Bond franchise when he was cast in the project, the star explained, ‘I didn’t realize how big it was until we had the premiere in London and had to meet the Queen. ‘Or she had to meet us.’

Now, Mads is no stranger to starring in hit franchises. Aside from Bond, he most recently took on a role in the movie, Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny, which premiered earlier this year in June.

He also jumped into the Harry Potter universe in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore and also Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

‘For a Danish guy, it’s insane to be in these films. My friend made a list of all the franchises I’ve been in and gone: “This one you haven’t done.” It was Indiana Jones. A week later, I got the phone call,’ he expressed.

‘It’s surreal when you think about it, so I try not to think about it. Sure, it’s Harrison Ford and he is a legend, but I will kick the s**t out of him anyway,’ Mads jokingly added.
The action film was the last time Ford portrayed the character of Indiana Jones, and Mads admitted that it had been ‘beautiful’ to see Harrison take on the role one last time.

Daniel Craig – who recently debuted a new classic hairstyle – also portrayed James Bond for the final time in the 2021 movie titled, No Time To Die.

He had played 007 in Quantum Of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), and also Specter (2015).

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly at the time of his last Bond film, the actor admitted, ‘I’ll miss everything, I think. I’ll miss the collaboration.’

‘I mean, hopefully I’ll keep working and I’ll have lots of other lovely jobs, but it’s very, very, very rare air. Apart from Marvel movies, there aren’t movies that are as big as this.’

He added, ‘I’ve had the privilege of being involved in it. … It was there before me, and it will be there after me. But I’ve had a chance to be part of all of this, and if you can’t get it up for a Bond movie as an actor, what can you get it up for? So, yeah, I’ll miss it a lot.’

Mads has been keeping busy promoting his latest film and historical drama called, The Promised Land. The movie had its world premiere in August at the 80th Venice Film Festival.

The project has also been selected as the entry for Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards.

The premise of the drama follows, ‘The story of Ludvig Kahlen who pursued his lifelong dream: To make the heath bring him wealth and honor,’ per an IMDB synopsis.
The film is based on the novel titled, The Captain And Ann Barbara, which was written by Ida Jessen.

While at the Zurich Film Festival on Friday, Mads was honored with the Golden Eye Award for ‘career achievement,’ Deadline reported.

Zurich artistic director Christian Jungen stated, ‘Mads Mikkelsen is a very charismatic actor who always completely immerses himself in his characters and captivates the audience with his looks and physical performance.’

‘He radiates strength and sometimes vulnerability at the same time and, as a leading actor, is able to carry films from A to Z, as he does in his latest work The Promised Land.
