Matt Napolitano, a 33-year-old anchor and reporter for Fox News Radio who lived his dream by appearing as a contestant on “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune,” died on Saturday following a short illness.



The tragic news was announced by Napolitano’s husband, Ricky Whitcomb, who wrote on X: “With a heavy heart I have to share that my husband @MattNapolitano passed away yesterday morning.”

“He loved his job and he loved bringing the news to your radios and televisions,” Whitcomb wrote Sunday.

Scott went on to say, ‘After a very brief departure, Matt returned to Fox News Audio as an update anchor/reporter, again writing, producing, and anchoring on all audio platforms. Matt also appeared on Fox Business Network’s with the latest sports stories and worked with the team at our affiliate news service Fox News Edge voicing packages for various Fox affiliates.’

Napolitano was a keen lover of the game show Jeopardy, and had been since he was just four years old.

At the age of 29, Napolitano finally achieved his dream of appearing on the TV show, hosted by Alex Trebek.

He appeared on an episode that aired on June 12, 2020, and said: ‘I don’t even remember getting some of these questions correct,’ because he was too caught up in the moment to take it all in.

He walked away in third place with $1,000 in prize money.

Napolitano was just 33 when he passed away on Saturday from an infection amid his ongoing health struggles.

The longtime Fox News audio network anchor and reporter had quickly climbed up the ranks at the company.

He was known in recent years for his sports commentary and had the privilege of covering the Super Bowl, World Series, Daytona 500 and many other famous sporting events.

Napolitano’s husband of seven months, Ricky Whitcomb, shared a heartfelt tribute to his partner on X.

Napolitano was “an honest journalist who truly cared about facts. “You can thank him for the last-minute Jets win today,” Whitcomb added.

Napolitano was hired by Fox News in 2015, when he started writing for its SiriusXM channel titled “Fox News Headlines 24/7.”

He then became a sports reporter for the network as well as a contributor for Fox Business shows such as Neil Cavuto’s “Cavuto Coast to Coast.”

Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott paid tribute to Napolitano in a memo to staffers.

“Matt did everything from anchoring to writing and producing for our audio platforms and loved being able to work in the journalism field that he trained for his entire life,” Scott wrote in the memo.

Napolitano was an avid “Jeopardy!” fan. He achieved his lifelong dream of appearing on the show as a contestant in 2020, according to Variety.

He also appeared on “Wheel of Fortune” in 2016, advancing to the bonus round.

“With a heavy heart I have to share that my husband Matt Napolitano passed away yesterday morning,” Whitcomb wrote.
